Artist Statement

My work is a response to what seems to be pervasive mindlessness within contemporary society—and a refusal to accept it.

Each work is an unfiltered expression of personal observations, emotions and experiences, and critiques of cultural and political issues.

As a self-taught artist, my approach remains raw and true, uninfluenced by academic intervention or suggestion as to how something “should” be expressed.  This allows me to engage deeply with themes of gender, identity, capitalism, and environmental decay.

Through bold compositions and evocative imagery, my art confronts societal contradictions, exposing the tension between the superficial and the profound.  Various works explore altered states of being and personal introspection.

I challenge the audience to engage beyond passive observation, as my art is both an act of resistance and an invitation for dialogue.

Artist Biography

Maureen was born in Buffalo, New York to a working-class family of four daughters. In her upbringing, education and professional stability were stressed over creative pursuits. After earning a graduate degree and attaining some degree of professional success, she struggled to reconcile her artistic nature with a life that felt misaligned.

Amid that struggle, she turned to painting as a form of catharsis—discovering art through what felt like divine intervention at the exact time it was needed. Since then, painting has been an enduring means of self-expression, offering truth and solace.

She recently pivoted professionally (from a time-demanding career in consulting to independent work) for the opportunity to build her portfolio.
